Frog Jam "Art Walk"

Painted by Haley Cooke. I can't think of another MTB trail complete with an Art Installation. Only in Nelson, BC. Head up there and see it for yourself.

Vallelujah!

The newest trail in the Smallwood Trail Network was christened this past Sunday. Votes were counted with a second ballot victory for Vallelujah, a name submitted by Katie Mitchell, avid mountain biker. Other contenders included Moose Knuckle and Morning Wood but without a doubt, the trail was aptly named as all riders will feel the vibe of inspiration as they come up the trail to a stunning view of the Valhalla Mountain Range.

The construction of this trail was made possible through a partnership between the Nelson & District Credit Union, the Columbia Basin Trust, the NCC and its members and the Ministries of Forests and Tourism, Culture and Arts.

Thanks to all riders who attended the celebration and to Troy Trillo, xc extraordinaire, for donating his $50 gift certificate back to the club kitty.

Trails: The fate of Morning Mountain

Machine built trail??

There is a possibility for this if we get some real money from the Morning Mountaininsurance fund. You need to come out to this meeting to show support. PLEASE!!

BIG MEETING on July 20th,
6:30pm @ Taghum Hall to discuss the fate of MorningMountain. If you want to see the RDCK spend real money$$$ on trails at Morning Mountainthen YOU NEED TO ATTEND. Yes, you read that correctly the Nelson Cycling Club could get real money$$$ for trails.

In brief, the regional directors of E and F want to gain the community's feedback on recreation priorities in the Blewett and Taghum Area.......they talk a lot about the status of Morning Mountain, past and present and note the NCC's interests and trails tenure at Morning Mountain.

The regional directors are seeking community direction for the expenditure of insurance funds (over $180,000) that are left over from the old ski lodge that burned down at
MorningMountain. NCC is in a position to receive some of these funds but we need you at the meeting. Please attend and/or send emails in support of "NCC for Morning Mountain" to:

Area E Director Ramona Faust - ramona_r@telus.net
Area F Director Ron Mickel - directorareaf@gmail.com

If you are a resident in the Bonnington, Taghum, & Blewett areas it is even more critical that you voice your opinion.

Great little video of Smiling Buddha

http://www.pinkbike.com/video/205544/

Just in from Baldface

Beware of large trucks up and down grohman creek road when shuttling Shannon! We are starting demolition and construction and there will be lots of heavy machinery on the road. If you don't have a radio, pull over for those trucks, they are not able to brake easily when loaded and comin down the mountain. There is still about a meter of snow on the upper trails. Swamp donkey has been logged. That's the update! Have Fun out there!

Trails: Mountain Station Agreement

The agreement the Nelson Cycling Club has with the private land owner
on Mountain Station is that there are to be no new trails or stunts at
this point. Trail re-routes to improve the flow and minimize erosion
like the work on Eli Sim are fine, as are the reconstruction of
damaged structures.

Thanks, Joel McBurney, Trail Stewardship Coordinator, NCC.

Trails: Update Taster's Choice & Smallwood

The NCC Trail Crew worked on the lower 1700ft of Taster's Choice
today; raking, brushing, and giving it a general tune -up. Another
session soon will brush out bushy sections higher up. Thanks to the
extra hands who showed up to help, and a big thanks to Mike Kinrade
for donating his cash winnings from Sunday's DownHill event to the NCC
for work on this epic, 'good to the last drop' trail.

Smallwood trail work: Crows nest climb has nearly been all clipped
(thanks pat, john & maya); however the top still needs work with good
clippers, a brush saw or small chain saw if anyone wants to go for it
- please do!

Trails: Maintenance Updates

Trail maintenance Volunteer Day Update
14 or so people got involved on Sunday's Trail Maintenance Party on lower Eli Sim. The blown out corner and the sketchy rooty move by the little creek have been replaced by a half sack of new berms and a fresh carpet of dirt. This season has seen a facelift on Eli from the new logging road right down to the tracks, and it's riding really good, FYI..
Thanks to all the volunteers who just made Nelson riding even better.
This just in from the NCC trail crew.
VEIN RECLAIMED! After multiple days of work, the trail crew and a handful of volunteers have got The Vein flowing again. If you've got the legs, you gotta go. Upper xc / climbing sections are bucked out and improved, and the DH finish has been cleared of slash and has some new reroutes in the logging zone.

Trails: Smallwood

The new signs are posted in Smallwood. Antler, Smallwood Lookout &
Big wood are all good to go. Our thanks to Dallas for clearing out
those trails. The goal in Smallwood is to complete the long XC loop –
we're almost there!
